These gentile giants are Southern Stingrays. They favor sandy habitats and can be found feeding around sea-grass beds. Don't be frightened by their name, while they do have a small spine on their tail, it is only used if they are threatened. Treat these magnificent pelagics with respect and you will not soon forget this spectacular encounter! |
Southern stingrays can grow to 5 feet in width! Their diet consists of crabs, shrimp, worms, fish, and small bottom-dwelling children..(just kidding!). Their mouth isn't but a few inches wide. The will not bite, but rather "suction" up their food into their tiny round mouths.
